Suaram, which means Voice of the Malaysian people in Malay language was established in 1987 after the infamous Operasi Lalang which many Malaysian activists were detained. It is a leading NGO in Malaysia championing for human rights issues. Some of its campaign includes the campaign against ISA, rights to justice, police reforms and freedom of expression, assembly and association.
Thailand People’s Empowerment Foundation

People’s Empowerment Foundation (PEF) is a registered independent non-governmental organization that was established in 2006 to address the needs of grassroots civil society networks in Thailand. PEF acts as the secretariat for a coalition of community-based organizations (CBOs) and maintains close working relationships with other partner organizations and networks within the country and throughout Southeast Asia.

KONTRAS which stands for The Commission for “the Disappeared” and the Victims of Violence started in 1998 as a force that confronts the authoritarianism of the Soeharto regime. Its main aim is to fight for justice, democracy and championing human rights agenda in Indonesia. Its current program includes Legal defense for activists, and campaigns for human rights violations in Indonesia.
Philippines Taskforce Detainees of the Philippines

The Taskforce Detainees of the Philippines was established in the year 1972, at the height of Marcos’s political repression and terror. Its main focus is on protecting the rights of political prisoners including awareness of human rights in Philippines. Today, its main activity is in the area of campaigns for political prisoners, the fight for justice, freedom from torture and educational assistance for the poor.
Laos Village Focus International

In 2000, VFI became the first international organization to be founded in Laos, at a time where local NGOs were banned in Laos. It is currently providing support to Laos community in education, healthcare, natural resource management, child protection and legal protection for the marginalized community.
